Title: Surprises
Fandom: French Revolution
Pairing: Saint-Just/Robespierre
Rating: PG-13
Summary: For Maxime's birthday, Saint-Just has planned a surprise.
Notes: Wow, this was totally random…and probably kinda lame. I was originally going for a double drabble, but I'm seven words over. I'm sure you guys'll forgive me though…
Of all the things Maximilien Robespierre had expected to see upon entering Louis Saint-Just's apartment, this was certainly not it. Slender tallow candles flickered warmly throughout the room. Rose petals—rose petals!—were scattered all over the floor. Saint-Just had even gone so far as to neatly position a small pyramid of oranges atop the desk.
And then of course there was Saint-Just himself: reclining on his stomach in bed with a book in his hands and not a stitch of clothing on his body.
Maxime's eyes were drawn irresistibly to his lover's fair form, and for his part, Saint-Just seemed to have no problem with this scrutiny, as if it were a common occurrence for him to be lying around naked. The younger man continued to read his book for a few moments more before finally setting it aside and fixing his striking eyes on Robespierre. "I was wondering when you'd get here." The corners of Louis's lips turned up in a delighted grin.
Robespierre opened his mouth to speak but for once found himself utterly speechless.
Saint-Just's smile—though it was far too smug to be called such—widened, and his blue eyes glittered wickedly, long hair falling haphazardly across his face.
"Bon anniversaire, Maxime!"
