Summary: Hannibal’s feelings when he and Will meet again after Will’s been put on the Dolarhyde case.

Jealousy was an ugly thing. Hannibal Lecter had always thought himself above such petty feelings. After all, envy was such an unbecoming emotion. It slithered and coiled in the pit of his stomach like a serpent, green and hungry, and Lecter did not like it.

He couldn’t help it though. See ex-Investigator Will Graham standing outside his glass and stone prison, Lecter had felt his heart skip a beat. Everything about the man seemed to provoke a heated envy.

In the basement’s darkness, his maroon eyes were quickly drawn to the golden gleam of Will’s wedding band. How dare Graham enjoy the company of a lover while Lecter was deprived of another’s touch? And oh how Hannibal hated the idea that someone could replace him as Will’s companion.

Then there was the mere fact that Hannibal was imprisoned in this rat hole. If Lecter was such a superior mind than why had he ended up incarcerated instead of fleeing to Europe while Graham’s heartless corpse languished in a morgue?

And of course there was Will himself: smooth skin a healthy tan, calloused fingers capable of such sensual caresses. And free. Will, goddamn him, was free.

Hannibal was jealous of that more than anything.
