spring break + drabble requests

Spring break at last! *is so grateful* Finishing papers and studying totally destroyed my sleep schedule last week. Ugh, I was pulling semi-all-nighters and then taking obscenely long afternoon naps. I was a hurting unit, but I finally got proper sleep last night. w00t!
My Victorian Britain midterm was actually somewhat fun. My teacher told my class to write two two-page essays (one on imperialism and one on Victorian liberalism) and to hand the papers in on Friday. The imperialist one was moreso an analysis of Bernard Porter's Absent-Minded Imperialists. (<---Interesting book, by the by.) My pro-capitalist tendencies kind of leaked out a bit for the second essay, but all in all I'd say it was a good essay. I was very pleased to find that I recalled people and policies without having to look them up. Apparently I'm learning something after all. XD
I finally managed to cobble together a resume so that I may possibly get a shiny summer internship at Liberty Mutual that I don't really want but kind of need. It's only been a week since I've submitted my resume, but already a man in Software Development is requesting an interview. *grins and keeps fingers crossed*
Yesterday I also met with
last_archangel for caffeinated beverages. She's so fun to hang out with, and she also told me about this really awesome tea called Red Rose (which I'm drinking right now!). Besides being very yummy tea, it also comes with a little glazed porcelain figure (animals at the moment) that was made in England. It's like those cereal box prizes but better. X3 Since it was right across the street, we actually went to the downtown grocery store to buy some tea. We tried to get sugar cubes too, but they were all out. ;__;
So for spring break I'll be trying to get some art, writing (at least 400 words a day), and work finished. Today is Personal Finance Organization, Classical Mythology Homework I, and Comic Reading Day.
Also, since I actually have time for a change: drabble requests! Fandoms I will write for are the Bible, history (French Revolution, American Revolution, French and Indian War, WWII), Masters of Their Field, Sherlock Holmes, 1776, Hannibal Lecter books & movies, Underworld, and Constantine/Hellblazer.
If you would like a 100 word drabble, then feel free to comment with character, pairing, prompt, quote, or whatever floats your boat. ^^

Title: Beautiful Monster
Word Count: 126
Hannibal Lecter waltzed as easily through a conversation as if he were dancing (prowling) across a ballroom. His tread was light, his arms welcoming to any (worthy) partner (Lady Murasaki, Will Graham, Clarice Starling) who would care (was deceived) to dance with him. With honeyed words and deft hands, he would leave them swooning, smitten with their hearts offered up to him on finely crafted china.
And if hearts would not be surrendered unto him, Hannibal could always take them. Severing the still warm organs artery by artery, he would claim his prize—delicately, always delicately—and delight in the charnel glory. Blood splattered liberally and made for a delectable, albeit thick, aperitif. Eyeballs for appetizers, a hearty entrée, and then maybe for dessert some ladyfingers.

Date: 2008-03-18 12:24 am (UTC)Ha ha. I'd say thank you on behalf of my country, but it's really just because we're inveterate tea-drinkers--though the invasion of the Second Cup (fancy coffees like Starbucks) proceeds unabated!
Also, I've seen Lipton, but I've never heard of Bigelow.

Word Count: 222
Standing by their bed, she was crying again, tears turning to ice as she shed them. They fell from her cheeks, pitter-pattering to the floor and smashing like fragile bits of glass.
"Lilith?" Lucifer asked, trying to be quiet, trying to be gentle but not quite recalling how.
She turned toward him a little, her ebony hair shimmering, and she wiped flecks of frost from her eyes. "I am so cold, my Lord." Her voice was so soft, so forlorn and broken that it was painful to hear.
The Devil's heart would have broken if it had been able to do so, and Lucifer went to her then, his hands light on the blue night velvet of her dress, and he drew her to him. "Let me warm you," he whispered, hot breath ghosting across the beautiful curve of her neck. Lilith shivered from the cold.
Lucifer couldn't warm her of course; nothing ever could. The coldness—blue lips, glacier pale skin—seemed to be Lilith's particular punishment that Lucifer, for all his burning and prideful fire, could never thaw.
She let him touch her anyway, even the ghost of sensation better than no feeling at all. Pressed together—coldhotfreezingburning—Lilith tried to remember
what it was like to feel warm while Lucifer tried to remember how to love.

Oooh, cool. Link me please if you post anything? I'd love to read whatever you come up with.
And here's your drabble. It got a little long... '^__^
Title: Sour Grapes
Word Count: 311
Julien wanted to beat Nathaniel so badly, so very, very badly. It would be so sweet, like perfectly aged port or fresh tobacco, but Julien wanted victory on equal grounds. Anything less would be a sham, a hollow conquest. Winning with false advantages was a hundred times worse than losing in a fair fight.
Of course, in a fair fight Nathaniel tended to win, at least when the fight involved épées. It was just the way Merrington moved. Like now for instance, his slim body easily navigating the wet and slippery ground in the barracks courtyard. He was scoring touches even when Julien was only presenting hand targets. Too quick, too fast, and that was why Julien found himself on his arse in the mud. So foolish. So busy trying to match Nathaniel's quick advances and retreats that he'd fallen over his own goddamn feet.
The two captains had been tied at four touches each, but as soon as Julien had stumbled, Nathaniel had taken his chance and finished the bout five to four.
Julien tried to stave off humiliation, but his aristocratic blood boiled. Beaten by some semi-impoverished, underbred upstart who could barely maintain a claim to nobility? Mortifying! The defeat was only made worse by the fact that while he was sitting here in the mud, the bastard was smirking—(obscene, arrogant, devilish, stunning)—that smirk
"I believe I have bested you, Marksby," Nathaniel commented dryly. "Again." Standing there so smug but disgustingly composed, the senior captain did not even proffer a hand to help Julien up. Instead Nathaniel made a half-assed salute and walked away, his lieutenant and sergeants coming to congratulate him.
Julien glared spitefully at his rival's retreating back as he simply walked away. Not that Julien cared of course! He wouldn't have taken the other captain's hand even if he had offered it. Certainly not.
----------------------------------------
Poor Julien. It's not that he's not a good fencer, it's just that Nathaniel is ever-so-slightly better. Although to be fair, Julien usually wins a third of their matches (sometimes more).

Ooh, I don't mind long. *gobbles it up* Hee! Yay! I don't doubt that Julien's good. It's obvious that Nathaniel being just a little better would annoy him so much.
obscene, arrogant, devilish, stunning
Ha! Yes! Secretly lusting after him, just as I thought. *nods sagely*
Could I request another drabble? Please? *puppy dog eyes*

Date: 2008-03-20 03:18 am (UTC)Sweetness! *goes to read*
Heh, I didn't think you'd be too terrible annoyed. ;3 Nathaniel's very serious and intense, and he's been that way since he was ten. Nate and Julien both started fencing when they were young 'uns, but while Julien was more of a spoiled brat as a teen, Nathaniel was, of course, serious and put more effort into what he did hence his better skill. /babble
Oh it's totally unconscious lust! *smirk* Rivals can be oddly attractive... -_-'
Could I request another drabble? Please? *puppy dog eyes*
Sure! I am on spring after all. And you did say please. *grin*

Date: 2008-03-20 03:25 am (UTC)Yay! *waits patiently for response*
Long is good. *nodnod* Yes, that makes sense, so it's really Julien's fault that he ended up on his ass in the mud. *smirk*
Totally unconscious! *wink*
Huzzah! Masters of their Field again. This time, Dimitri/Jean-Marie, when they're both still in France. Oui?

so it's really Julien's fault that he ended up on his ass in the mud.
Pretty much, yes. Joining the military was a real wake up call for Julien. He realized that he could get through life comfortably with his family's prestige and fortune, but if he wanted to really earn respect for himself personally, he would have to work at it. However, even though he started putting more effort into what he did, he still couldn't completely make up for lost time.

Title: A Pretty Lieutenant
Word Count: 229
Although they wouldn't meet until right before they left for Canada, Count Jean-Marie first saw Dimitri Gisée three months before then. It was at a party, unsurprisingly, and despite the fact that neither spoke to the other, Dimitri left a memorable impression on the Count.
"He's really quite attractive. Michel's nephew if I'm not mistaken." Jean-Marie looked out across the dancer floor at a stunning youth in fine military dress.
Beside the Count, his manservant Jacques followed his master's gaze. "The Lieutenant, my Lord?"
"Yes, that's him." Jean-Marie eyed the lieutenant in question. How dapper he looked in his clean uniform and white wig. Dimitri moved with the grace an elegance that only good breeding could bring, and even across the room the Count caught glimpses of the other soldier's charming smile. "Rather lovely I think," Jean-Marie murmured discreetly to his aide. "What say you, Jacques?"
The older man shook his head. "A typical youth despite his family's influence. I should think," the stout man replied gravely, "that my Lord would not like him overly much."
Jean-Marie chuckled. "Oh wouldn't I?"
"Heavens, no, my Lord! The lieutenant has quite a mouth on him, sir—or so I've heard. No respect for authority," Jacques added with obvious displeasure.
The Count chuckled, thoughtfully swishing his wine around in its glass. "Impertinent is he? Sounds like a man after my own heart."

Nope, he couldn't, but he can keep working at it.
Whee! I love that Jean-Marie noticed him from the start. I remember you wrote their actual first meeting and it was amusing. *smirk* I'm sure I have it saved somewhere. Bravo!
*grin* I'm glad I've reminded you of the joy.

May I request an American Revolution drabble? Hamilton/Lafayette has piqued my interest over the past week or so. Whatever comes out of your lovely self, I'd love.

Date: 2008-03-23 04:15 pm (UTC)Title: First Impressions
Word Count: 129
Alexander Hamilton didn't exactly have anything against the French—he was too young to remember the French and Indian War of the fifties and sixties. He supposed they were an alright lot; however, he was really, truly, and genuinely beginning to dislike French soldiers.
Alexander disliked how they came over to America and acted all high and mighty as if they were so spectacular and were doing the poor Continental Army a favor by coming.
So understandably when he first went to meet the Marquis de Lafayette, Hamilton was apprehensive at best.
Lafayette was a French soldier.
However, any insults died upon Hamilton's lips as soon as he saw the new soldier. Alexander was vaguely aware of a fluttery nervous sensation constricting his chest.
Lafayette was a stunning man.
