This semester I have had the pleasure of writing, for a class, fanfiction (of a sort)—also known as my theatre class paper. For the assignment, I took two play characters Peter Stockman from An Enemy of the People and Leonid Gayev from The Cherry Orchard...and slashed them. XD
"An Epilogue in Paris"

And now for something completely different... I'll need this to distract me when I want to take a break from my financial accounting project tomorrow. -__-' Swiped from [livejournal.com profile] jestana:
Give me a character or pairing and I will write snippets of ten different alternate universe for it. One line, ten lines, a ficlet if you're lucky. [ETA: Or if you're very, very lucky a quick sketch. But that's a big maybe. XD]

2. cyberpunk:

Whoo, I hope everyone had lovely holidays! Mine certainly rocked.

'Nother big thank you, [livejournal.com profile] airtravel, for the Christmas morning Raphael and Asmodeus art. That was amazing and caught me completely by surprise. ^__^ And thank you to [livejournal.com profile] jestana for the Asmodeus/Raphael fic (sooo hawt!) and for the really thoughtful British monarchy book you sent me. (I squeed when I unwrapped it.) Since I like to write historical fiction set in various time periods of Great Britain, that book will be such a handy quick reference. :D

Christmas Day was great for my family, and travel schedules coincided perfectly. My crazy relatives came to my family's house, everybody brought food, and we threw wrapping paper balls at each other, etc. A fun time was had by all, haha. And a fun time is still mine: there were some leftover mini-lobster rolls that my grandma made. Guess who's been washing the mayonnaise off and then dipping the lobster in butter? *grin*

Also, here are the Christmas ficlets plus one extra. War, coercion, oath breaking, mistaken identities, dead ducks, and demon porn! Happy Holidays, everybody!

Spring break at last! *is so grateful* Finishing papers and studying totally destroyed my sleep schedule last week. Ugh, I was pulling semi-all-nighters and then taking obscenely long afternoon naps. I was a hurting unit, but I finally got proper sleep last night. w00t!

My Victorian Britain midterm was actually somewhat fun. My teacher told my class to write two two-page essays (one on imperialism and one on Victorian liberalism) and to hand the papers in on Friday. The imperialist one was moreso an analysis of Bernard Porter's Absent-Minded Imperialists. (<---Interesting book, by the by.) My pro-capitalist tendencies kind of leaked out a bit for the second essay, but all in all I'd say it was a good essay. I was very pleased to find that I recalled people and policies without having to look them up. Apparently I'm learning something after all. XD

I finally managed to cobble together a resume so that I may possibly get a shiny summer internship at Liberty Mutual that I don't really want but kind of need. It's only been a week since I've submitted my resume, but already a man in Software Development is requesting an interview. *grins and keeps fingers crossed*

Yesterday I also met with [livejournal.com profile] last_archangel for caffeinated beverages. She's so fun to hang out with, and she also told me about this really awesome tea called Red Rose (which I'm drinking right now!). Besides being very yummy tea, it also comes with a little glazed porcelain figure (animals at the moment) that was made in England. It's like those cereal box prizes but better. X3 Since it was right across the street, we actually went to the downtown grocery store to buy some tea. We tried to get sugar cubes too, but they were all out. ;__;

So for spring break I'll be trying to get some art, writing (at least 400 words a day), and work finished. Today is Personal Finance Organization, Classical Mythology Homework I, and Comic Reading Day.

Also, since I actually have time for a change: drabble requests! Fandoms I will write for are the Bible, history (French Revolution, American Revolution, French and Indian War, WWII), Masters of Their Field, Sherlock Holmes, 1776, Hannibal Lecter books & movies, Underworld, and Constantine/Hellblazer.

If you would like a 100 word drabble, then feel free to comment with character, pairing, prompt, quote, or whatever floats your boat. ^^

Whoo, some MoTF stuff at last! And there's more still in the works. For now though, four pictures and a story snippet.

A little slashy, but everything should be worksafe. There is a threesome pic (Nathaniel/Jean-Marie/Julien), but it's incredibly tame.

the drawings! )

Also, I am plotting to dress up as Commodore Norrington for the third PotC movie, and I managed to find a decent wig in a costume shop in Salem, MA this weekend; not The Best Wig Ever, but it shall suffice. ;3

At fourteen pages the Mistletoe comic is at last done. It's set at the fictional White Owl tavern in Nova Scotia a couple years before Masters of Their Field. Nathaniel Merrington and Julien Marksby, two British army captains who have a serious rivalry with each other, are the main characters, but naval captain Robin Tremaine is also present. This comic does contain mild slash.

Since last Thursday, I've been on a watercoloring rampage, spending five to eight hours a day on this comic. XD I finished editing the text in my first period class this morning, and I'm sooo happy to have finally completed this project. Although I liked it, I don't plan on doing anymore comics in watercolor again; it was pretty hard. So my next comics will most likely be ink/pencil/colored pencil. :3

Until I put "Mistletoe" up on my website and do all the html coding, I have uploaded the comic (and the ficlet that started it) to sendspace.com.

Mistletoe, 4.05 MB

ETA (4/7/07): And now it can also be found here at the MoTF website.

Well, it finally, actually happened... After just over a year of working on the MoTF story, I have finally finished chapter one! O_O

Title: Masters of Their Field (chapter 1)
Fandom: French and Indian War historical fiction
Rating: PG-13 (for language; rating will go up)
Pairing: will eventually be Nathaniel Merrington/Dimitri Gisée
Summary: The French and Indian War has been going on for about two years now when Nathaniel Merrington is sent from Nova Scotia to New York and then north along the Hudson River where he will help run a British fort. However, what starts out as a simple appointment to a colonial outpost quickly spirals out of Nathaniel's hands when he and a French soldier, Dimitri Gisée, end up uncovering a double agent playing the French and British forces in North America against each other.
Notes: Translations of French dialogue are footnoted. (Constructive crit welcome, especially on grammar/spelling.)

chapter 1

Happy Presidents Day, everyone! w00t!

And what a happy one it is. My area is currently experiencing an enormous snowstorm that canceled school today and may possibly result in a cancellation tomorrow. (I dearly hope it does.)

I spent a good bit of time cleaning up and finding space for my new babies: nine ex-library books. Yesterday my school library was having a purge of a few dozen books, and my history teacher Mr. Stone convinced the librarians to let me have some of them. He also got a few books himself. It was like a mini-Christmas. XD

My haul of nine books included two French Revolution books, two on general French history, four about Canada, and one on German history. All very thick. As my friend Margie put it when she saw me carrying them after school, "Sam, you've got a stack of books half the size of yourself!"

Other than that, I have been working on some drawings or less favorably, some homework. For now, a fluffy Nathaniel/Dimitri pic.
Nathaniel x Dimitri )

I also submitted an Adam/Jefferson fanart and a short Adams/Dickinson ficlet to [livejournal.com profile] 1776_contest for the "Rompin' In Cupid's Grove" challenge. ;3

Whoo, an MoTF art post! It's been awhile... Just a small selection for now, but that's mainly because I've been working more on comics (which should also be posted...eventually).

Oh, and I'm not sure if I mentioned it earlier, but I recently found my Scarlet Pimpernel DVD. It was "hidden" on one of my more obscure bookshelves. *facepalm* I swear, I'd lose my head if it wasn't attached...

Anyway, on with the drawings!

All images worksafe. )

First semester is quickly drawing to a close, just a couple more weeks now. *sniffle* I'm going to miss my French and English classes when they're over. On the bright side, since my average is so high in those classes, I may be exempt from taking the final exam. w00t!

And speaking of English, my class was finally assigned to write another story using vocabulary from the curriculum. I chose to write about Masters of Their Field shortly after Nathaniel's arrival in the American colonies, and I thought I'd share. It's short and a bit rough around the edges but not too bad overall. Oh and the vocab. words are underlined.

...nothing cures a long voyage of subsisting on moldy hardtack and stale water better than a good meal at a good tavern... )

Soon to be posted:
-the Nate/Julien watercolor comic (I have not forgotten it!)
-Nathaniel with sword
-Nathaniel/Dimitri pre-kiss
-...a few other things
-And since I haven't done this yet, a poll!

*sigh* My Scarlet Pimpernel DVD is still MIA, but I did find $10 so I guess that's kind of good... Anyways, I spent most of the weekend drawing or doing homework. *productive*

And I'm addicted to Wicked's soundtrack. *nodnodnod*

On with ze art!

Presented my history project on the Battle of Cowpens (from the American Revolution, January 17, 1781) today. Instead of having to get up in front of the class and talk, I made a short vid. While the movie clips and music parts melded well, I had a few problems with the volume in some spots, but I was able to get it working decently at least. My history class really liked it and so did Mr. Stone. Next time we're assigned a presentation though, I'm going to be more careful with recording the audio.

It's been cloudy today too, and this evening after my driver's ed appointment, it finally rained. As it tends to, the rain inspired me, but for a change, I actually included the rain in the picture. XD
Dimitri/Nathaniel fluff! )

I'm bringing in sketches for the yearbook pics tomorrow. I hope the yearbook people like zem. *crosses fingers*

On to the art! )

Masters of Their Field finally has a website! I've been working on it for pretty much all weekend. The graphics are simple, and I still want to add a few other pages, but for the moment this will suffice. *pleased*

Oh, and I started driver's ed today. Blegh. It bites the big one, but at least my instructor turned out to be nicer than I thought she was.

I also took out Last of the Mohicans from the library. *bookgasm*

Yesterday my English prof gave my class an interesting assignment: write a story using 15 of our 20 vocabulary words from unit 3. So I quickly decided to write a scene from my French and Indian War story, Masters of Their Field. It's not my best writing because I had to make sure I included enough vocab words, but it still went off well.

When I had to read it aloud in class, I was worried as hell, but approximately half the class actually applauded. Out of about ten readings, mine was the only one anyone clapped for, and that totally made my day. ^_^ Of course, I was also reading with enthusiasm. (i.e. For Nate's lines I tried to sound pissed and for Robin's I tried to act cheerful.) so that probably made it less boring too. I was so nervous that I couldn't manage a British accent though; my hands were shaking and everything. *sheepish* Maybe next time… *grin*

I'll probably include this (or something very similar to it) in the actual MoTF story. It turned out to be a rather nice scene although I'd have to tweak the dialogue and replace some of the vocabulary words first to make it flow a bit more smoothly.

Anyways, this takes place towards the very beginning of the story, right before Nathaniel lands in the New World.

Finally, a Masters of Their Field update. Wow, it's been awhile! There's plenty more coming which I might have finished soon in spite of evil school.

Whew, and that's it! Next time, some watercolor!

Other than that, my cousin Christopher is here, and we just spent the last couple hours gallavanting at Barnes & Noble. *eagerly reads new book*

As of now, the setting for this story, Masters of Their Field, takes place during the French and Indian War in northeastern North America, May 1756 when the Marquis de Montcalm arrives in Canada. (He might even make an appearance in the story. O_O) Other than that I have yet to decide where exactly everybody else is located. So far, the French soldiers in my story are stationed at the fictional Fort Charlotte. However, if historical accuracy permits, I may move them from Charlotte to Fort Carillon (Ticonderoga). I'm still looking into that. More on the setting later.

For now…

Next Up:
-a large, detailed watercoloring of the British soldiers
-a large, detailed watercoloring of the French soldiers
(w00t! I successfully got my big sheets of wc paper from the art supply store!)
-Jean-Marie/André slashy picture
-a computer colored picture of Dimitri and Nathaniel
-a pencil drawing of Dimitri reading a dispatch
-a pencil drawing of Dimitri and Nathaniel kissing

First, I've redesigned my MoTF character André Marien's look, and I like it so much better. He'll be mentioned some more in my next post about Jean-Marie. And speaking of him, asdfghjkl;! watercoloring Jean-Marie's hair is driving me nuts. >_O It looks remotely decent now, but it's taking forever.

Also, in another way to procrastinate summer schoolwork, I made PotC: CotBP icons. ^_^
